Nancy Wood Ms. Worthington Eng 102 Feb. 14th, 2013 Analysis Of Barn Burning-William Faulkner How is the setting in the Barn Burning southern? There are many things that prove this story is very southern and they are as follows: the use of the word N___er, reference ââ¬Å"share cropping after the Civil Warâ⬠, (The History Channel) a Nigro servant in what is plainly an Plantation like house, the father was in the war as an Confederate soldier, and several stereo typical southern references as well as the use of common southern accents.. The use of ââ¬Å"N___erâ⬠(AFRAKA) is used multiple times in this story.It is used openly and without shame in regard to any person of color referenced in the story. This term is not as acceptable as it used to be, in reference to people of color, the term black is acceptable now in the south even though it doesnââ¬â¢t matter what oneââ¬â¢s skin color is, we are in fact equal. ââ¬Å"It is probable that nââ¬âer is a phonetic spelli ng of the white southern mispronunciation of negoâ⬠The family that is the focus of this story is sharecroppers, Landless laborers who rent land from landowners in return for a portion of their crop.The sharecropping system was developed as a way for landowners to establish a work force after the abolition of slavery in the south. To this day landowners still rent their land to the landless so that both can make a profit. Plantation houses of the classic antebellum style are indicative of the southern society before and after the civil war. The one referenced in the story is described as huge and white such as the antebellum style. It is indicated to be of the plantation by a comment by the father. ââ¬Å"Pretty and white ainââ¬â¢t it, that sweat n___er sweat, maybe it ainââ¬â¢t white enough yet to suit him. . â⬠(Faulkner)â⬠The father was indicated as being in the civil war. He was supposed to have been in ââ¬Å"colonel satoris cavââ¬â¢ryâ⬠(calvary). It was stated at the end of the story that the father had been a ââ¬Å"Malbrouckâ⬠a soldier who had no loyalty to superiors flag or country and simply used the instance of war to rob and sell anything he could get his hands on for his own gain. He even named his own son Colonel Satoris Snopes in reference to his days as a soldier. As with the other stuff to prove southern tone, we have the whipper-whirl (bird which is known for a destintive call) and named for as such.Cherokee roses are growing all around the area around the landscape, they are also accept along the southern landscape as well. This story portrays southerners as uneducated at times, including words as mis-pronounicatins, such as Nigro being N___er, a final indenication is that people with that background of education, well all was a true miscommunication at the times. The main characterââ¬â¢s sister showed the most misuncomprohensable remark as aâ⬠remark of ignorce. â⬠(Faulkner) As one that live or have lived in that time, I am sure our predessors have been greatly improve on their attitudes and their beliefs.As I would not have approved of all of this except I wasnââ¬â¢t alive at the time. Mister Pip of Lloyd Jones Essay
The narrator of Mister Pip is Matilda, a young girl growing up on an island in the south Pacific. As the story unfolds it becomes gradually more apparent that this island is in the grip of a brutal war. Matilda is deflected from the impact of the threatening violence by her fascination with Mr. Watts the only white man on the island and the person who has the task of teaching the islandââ¬â¢s children. His only text is Great Expectations and he manages to cast a strange spell over the children and their parents using Dickensââ¬â¢s story in various ways. The book has the quality of a fantasy where the characters achieve moments of liberation through storytelling. The central character Matilda asserts, ââ¬Å"stories can help you find happiness and truth.â⬠This belief is borne out as the story unfolds and Matilda triumphs in spite of horrendous suffering. I found the character of Matildaââ¬â¢s mother to be the most convincing. She makes an amazing journey from religious fundamentalism to heartbreaking heroism culminating in the perfect climactic line; ââ¬Å"I am here as Godââ¬â¢s witness.â⬠The whole book is a witness to the power of fiction; Matilda claims that Great Expectations is the ââ¬Å"one book that supplied me with another world at a time when it was desperately needed.â⬠As I read it I came to accept that this could be true and that Mister Pip might very well turn out to be a classic piece of fiction that stands the test of time. If there is a flaw it is in the last twenty pages which deal with Matildaââ¬â¢s life outside her island home. The adult Matilda is not as convincing as the child narrator who observes the wonderful and strange things that happen in Mr Wattsââ¬â¢ classroom. It is nevertheless a delightful and searing book which might well send you back to Dickens as a kind of bonus.

Help Improve Own and Team Practices in Schools
3. 4 It is essential that we respect the skills and expertise of other practitioners we work alongside. To work as a team we need to listen to others and take on board what they are saying. As someone new to the role we can learn a lot from our more experienced colleagues. To have a good relationship with other colleagues we need to show them that we respect their views, knowledge and opinions. In my short time at Holy Spirit I already feel that I have learnt a great amount from the other staff, particularly the support staff.This knowledge is vital and invaluable and will stay with me throughout my career. When working as team it is important that we communicate effectively with others. If we do not respect the skills and expertise of others it will cause resentment which can lead to problems with communication within the team. If we value the skills and expertise of others we may find that we are then invited to give advice and suggestions ourselves.By pooling our skills and knowle dge we are more likely to be successful in achieving the aims of the team. We can add to our own skills and expertise if we take time out to watch others practitioners. Changes occur regularly so there is always the opportunity to find out from others about new initiatives and ideas. In time others may come to us for advice and help because of the skills and expertise we have gained from others guidance.

Straight blades produce regular chips while rippled blades produce ridged potato chips. 5 The slices fall into a second cold-water wash that removes theà starchà released when the potatoes are cut. Some manufacturers, who market their chips as natural, do not wash the starch off the potatoes. Color treatment * 6 If the potatoes need to be chemically treated to enhance their color, it is done at this stage. The potato slices are immersed in a solution that has been adjusted for pH, hardness, and mineral content. Frying and salting * 7 The slices pass under air jets that remove excess water as they flow into 40-75 ft (12. 2-23 m) troughs filled with oil.The oil temperature is kept at 350-375à °F (176. 6-190. 5à °C). Paddles gently push the slices along. This happened in October 1998 as the yen rose in value from Yen 131/dollar to Yen 111/dollar in less than two days (Oct. 7-8). The dollar had become less attractive relative to the yen: the Fed cut the discount rate, hedge funds unwound short yen positions, and Japanese banks and other financial institutions dumped dollar securities because they needed the capital at home (especially after the Nikkei 225 dipped below 13,000).
